The wxo-builder skill translates validated Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) or detailed prompts into production-grade watsonx Orchestrate solutions, generating agents, tools, workflows, and knowledge base configurations adhering to ADK standards. Source location: skills/wxo-builder/SKILL.md in the ADK repository.

Overview

The wxo-builder skill accelerates development by converting procedural documentation into working ADK code. It automatically enforces recommended ADK project directory layouts, Python tool decorators, agent YAML specifications, flow definitions, and CLI import scripts. Best for: Implementing production-ready watsonx Orchestrate projects directly from SOPs or architectural designs.

Generated artifacts

The skill generates complete, modular project directory structures:

Key capabilities

  • SOP-to-Code Transformation: Parses SOP decision steps, tool invocations, and agent prompts directly into corresponding ADK entities.
  • Agent Authoring: Generates agent YAML files configuring models, temperature, instructions, tool permissions, and multi-skill configurations.
  • Python and OpenAPI Tool Scaffolding: Writes type-hinted, docstring-documented Python tools using the @tool decorator or OpenAPI specs.
  • Agentic Workflows: Generates flow definitions with proper data mapping, branching logic, parallel execution, and user activity nodes.
  • Knowledge Base Integration: Configures connectors for Milvus, AstraDB, and Elasticsearch vector stores.
  • CLI Import Automation: Generates automated shell scripts (import-all.sh) for rapid importing into local or cloud environments via orchestrate CLI commands.

Activation

In Bob, activate the skill by providing an SOP or detailed prompt:
Or for iterative scaffolding:

Next steps

  • Run the generated import-all.sh script to import your project into watsonx Orchestrate Developer Edition or your cloud environment.
  • Use wxo-analyzer to audit your project structure and detect anti-patterns.
  • Use Agentic Workflow Advisor to validate flow performance and routing efficiency.
  • Use agent-instructions-evaluator to assess agent instruction quality.
